The Art of Audio Fever - Seminar for new interpretation of vintage LP

Date: 2014-04-12

The year 2014 sees a continuing bloom of the black vinyl, which has recently become an object of speculation, reflecting a high demand for good music programme and discontinued software. The sudden discontinuation of quality pick-up mechanisms by Sony and Philips left owners of large, valuable SACD and CD collections as well as costly equipment an unforeseeable future. Meanwhile, with modern technological advances that have freed black vinyl playback systems of previous limitations, the LP is now considered sonically superior to the compact disc and offers an unprecedented enjoyment hitherto experienced with the latter. In response to the turn of tide, Richcoln has begun acquiring representative analogue disc playback systems from Europe and the States. We have since dedicated ourselves to popularization of analogue disc culture via hosting music appreciation sessions and seminars. The first seminar took place on 12th April 2014, conducted by our audio consultant Mr. Franz Chan, whose devotion to the black vinyl has made him a guru status in the high-end audio scene. Mr. Chan shared his life-long experience with the audience using a simple, understandable language.

The seminar began with an introduction of the pick-up cartridge, a vital part of the analogue playback system, and an in-depth analysis of moving coil (MC), moving magnet (MM) and moving iron (MI) principles. Mr. Chan gave a detailed account of the complete line of Soundsmith's "State-of-the-art" moving iron cartridges, and their advantages over the commonly available moving magnets and moving coils. His lecture was inspiring and aroused great enthusiasm among the audience. The second topic of interest was the analogue turntable. Again Mr. Chan gave a presentation of high-end products by Acoustic Signature of Germany, followed by demo sessions. The audience was amazed at the natural, detailed, noise-free and musically accurate reproduction. The memorable experience enabled attendees to have a clear understanding and right approach to improving their playback systems. We at Richcoln will keep up with our good work by organizing more contributing activities for audiophiles.
