Hong Kong High-End Audio Visual Show 2013

Date: 2013-08-08

The 11th Hong Kong High-End AV Show raised its curtain at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre at Wanchai on 9th August 2013. World renowned brands were gathered together and attracted thousands of music lovers and audiophiles. The number of attendees far exceeded previous years.

This year audio products from Europe and America were exhibited in booths S427 and X05. The demo equipment in S427 was a HKD 4,000,000 combination! The system comprised the Kalista Ultimate SE CD transport and Nausicaa Signature D/A converter by Metronome Technologie of France as source, the Jubilee preamplifier and the 400W mono power amplifiers by Octave of Germany and the BB5 SE flagship monitor speakers by PMC. Both the Kalista and Nausicaa sit on a beautiful, uniquely perspex "Silent Base", which further freed them from structural and air-borne vibrations. We did not leave the analogue source neglected, due to its increasing popularity. The analogue system featured a combination of Acoustic Signature's Ascona turntable, Vertere's Reference tonearm with a USD 35,000 retail price tag, Soundsmith's Hyperion moving iron cartridge with cactus spine cantilever and Burmester's Phono 100 phono amplifier, with Vertere cabling throughout.

Also on static display were HP300SE preamplifier and V110 integrated amplifier by Octave, the Burmester 111 Musiccenter and the Top Line products in "gold", Metronome T5 CD transport, C5 and C6 D/A converters, Acoustic Signature's Challenger MK3, Storm MK2 and the WOW turntables, the full range of audio cables by Ramses and BTL of Germany, PMC SE series of speaker systems, to name a few.

Meanwhile, digital playback systems with computer as source were a feature of booth X05. These included AVM's ML8 music library, CD8 CD player, PA8 preamplifier and MA8 power amplifier from Germany. A digital demo system was dedicated to all Bryston products, namely the BDP-1 digital player, BDA-1 decoder and BHA-1 headphone amplifier feeding three headphones with difficult load. Also on static display were PMC's twenty.24 floofstanding speaker, CD players by AVM and Exposure. We were honoured to have the presence of Mr. Udo Besser, AVM's General Manager, who gave a detailed account of AVM's new products and the philosophy behind. Besides, attendees were able to meet CEOs of audio brands we represented in person. Each of seminars and demo session was such an attraction that attendees were reluctant to leave on completion.
